3 Tools: Weebly, Delicous & Netvibes

I got to know three different tools, which are new for me. These tools are Weebly, Delicous and Netvibes. You have so many different possibilities to use these ones. With the first one, you can create your own portfolio, as I am doing at the moment. The second one is for social bookmarking. There you can store different websites without always looking them up. The last one is a web page, where it is possible to create an own start page.
In the following, I will explain all three tools a bit and I will mention some advantages and disadvantages of them.

Weebly
Weelby.com is a website where you can create your own portfolio. It is totally different than doing a “normal” portfolio, but you have a lot more possibilities in your creation when you doing it with weebly.com. First of all, it is to say that you have got lots of chances in the choice of the design of your portfolio. You can either choose one of the given designs there, or create a new one. Furthermore, it is possible to create every page different according to the topics. It does not matter what you want to include in your portfolio, nearly everything is possible. You can upload a normal pdf- file, a movie, a clip, a song or whatever you like. It is also possible to just write down in your portfolio without including any word files or something like this. If you decide to do this, you have got some possibilities how to create a text page. You can either write a headline and underneath it the text or you can write your text in different columns like in a newspaper article. It is no problem to include some pictures, links or screenshots in your text.

I will concentrate a little more on the design. As I already mentioned, it is possible to design every page of your portfolio differently. You can choose a color or a picture in the background or at the top of your page. Moreover, you can select a typeface and the size of the text. There are designs which have underneath the picture something like an overview about the topics in the portfolio. You only have to name each of your pages and then they are there to click on. You do not have to search for the page you want to read, with the help of the method.

There are lots of advantages of an e-portfolio instead of a printed “normal” version of it. First of all, I think that it is much nicer designed than a non electronic one. You have got more possibilities to design it on weebly.com than to design a portfolio on your own. A second big advantage is to upload movies or songs and include it in texts for example. If you are doing a “normal” portfolio you have not this opportunity and you have to copy it on a CD for example. It is easier and nicer for the reader of your portfolio to just click on a file and then read on instead of reading, making a pause and looking for a CD player or DVD player and then go on reading.

But there are also some disadvantages of the e-portfolios. The biggest one is the fact that you have to be fit in working with the computer and the internet. At the beginning, it is very complicated to get rid of all the possibilities you have and to get an overview how it works to do an e-portfolio. I think it depends on the experiences you already made in working with the computer. If you are familiar with this stuff, it will be probably no problem to create an e-portfolio.

Netvibes
Netvibes.com is a homepage where you can create your own start page. It facilitates your daily work at the pc. Who does not know this phenomenon? You switch your pc on and then you start to check your e-mails, look at your “To Do list” for this day, go online in different social networks and so on. You need a lot of time for this because you have to open every webpage to see what is new and after that you close it. It is often the case that you need a certain page some minutes later a second time and then you have to open it again.

This problem is solved if you create an own start page. This page is on your pc if you open the internet and then you have got everything what is important for you on the screen. Therefore it is necessary to decide which homepages you want to have on your start page. First of all, it is useful to get your e-mail homepage like gmx.com or yahoo.com on your start page. After that you have got so many possibilities of choosing web sides. You can choose which social network you want to have (facebook or studi vz) or if you like to have twitter. Furthermore, you can put a homepage on your start page which shows you the weather. Delicious.com is a homepage where you can store all bookmarks which are important for you. If you read an interesting article for example, you can just store it and you can reread it whenever you want to do it. Another very important fact is that you can see the bookmarks of other persons who use delicious.com. You can just type in a keyword and the chance is high that you will find a person who has already bookmarks about it. Then you can just copy them. It facilitates the work enormously.
